Character dissection-Benedict Cumberbatch

“It’s elementary, my dear Watson.” If asked about this dialogue we all would shout the name of the famous deerstalker clad character ever produced in history. But if your answer is Sherlock Holmes, you would definitely get 4 out of 5. Many Conan Doyle fans will be enraged at this comment of mine but I mean no disregard. Since its inception the BBC series of the modern adaptation of this epic saga has created ripples and news over the media and hearts of thousand fans for its uncanny take on this much adapted detective series.
Towed with the archenemy of the era James Moriarty played by an endowed Andrew Scott and Sherlock’s best friend and assistant Dr. Watson played by a frivolous Martin Freeman, this show has changed the way the snobby detective was ever presented before the world. But the man of the show is definitely Benedict Cumberbatch; who for his certain Brit accent and so-sharp-it-will-cut-you delivery has become synonymous with the character, sometimes overlapping its aura so much so that even after playing promising roles in Oscar winning and critically acclaimed movies like Warhorse and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy; Sherlock fittingly suits as his alter ego.

Benedict seems to have sprayed some sort of cool psychosis into the character, delivering dialogues with super speed and clear cut Brit accent altogether remaining stoic representing a psychopath or as he corrects an officer in the show “Sociopath, not Psychopath. At least get your facts right.” It does not matter that a film series dedicated to this mastermind is being played at this same time frame under the able directions of Guy Ritchie and Robert Downey Jr. plays the role of the sleuth here. Although I dare not talk about his charismatic attitude and delivery of dialogues; Cumberbatch seems to have swept all accolades for his tongue-in-cheek dialogues and ‘Bassoony baritone’ as 11thMay edition of t2, The Telegraph puts it.
His latest foray into films released just in the theaters; Star Trek Into Darkness. Although I am not much into the Star franchisees  but his role as rogue officer Harrison is, one hears, garnering interests and works wonderfully in the film. He has shaped up himself too to fit in those latex suits.
The 3rd edition of the TV series is being shot now and we all are (and I speak for all the Cumber-boys and Cumber-babes) waiting the moment when he explains to Watson what was his escape route in the last edition. Interestingly the film version too ended on a pretty same note though here we all know how Holmes saved himself.
I do hope he does some meatier roles and then there is Sherlock indeed. That’s for today. Will be back with some more characters that stood out in TV or films. Till then happy reading. Heil Benedict
